Mark Van Schoten
Senior Associate
Mark is an Associate of Peter J Ramsay & Associates. He is a Hydrogeologist/Environmental Scientist with over 24 years experience in hydrogeology, soil and groundwater contamination assessments and exploration geology. This experience includes hydrogeological investigations, soil and groundwater contamination assessments, groundwater modelling and risk assessment. He has also completed studies in chemistry, soil science, biology, geochemistry, environmental and engineering geology. His skills base also includes geophysical methods, photogeology, geostatistics and risk assessment.
Mark has extensive project management experience working on numerous Phase I and II soil and groundwater contamination assessments at industrial sites throughout Australia, including former petroleum refineries, foundries, paper making, ship building, railways, chemical plants, bulk chemical storage, facilities, nurseries, printing and electroplating plants, tanneries and service stations. Mark has also worked as a Project Manager for the remediation of major soil and groundwater contamination at a pharmaceutical plant in Victoria, Australia. Remediation technologies implemented included soil vapour extraction, groundwater pump and treat, and in-situ soil and groundwater bioremediation systems. Recently, Mark has worked on multiple Audit reviews of the construction of liner systems at landfills and leachate ponds in Victoria, Australia.
Other areas of expertise include assessments and assisting with our Auditor Mr Peter Ramsay’s audits at a number of former service station sites including former Shell, BP, Ampol and Burmah Fuels sites in Victoria; Numerous assessments of underground fuel storage facilities at industrial sites in NSW, Victoria and Queensland. These have included bulk fuel storage terminals, bus depots, road transport depots, rail depots, dockyards, motor vehicle workshops and dealerships, car rental depots, motor vehicle and aviation manufacturing and testing facilities, food and retail store distribution centres, foundries, marinas and yacht clubs, dry-cleaners and pharmaceutical plants. Performance of hydrogeological assessments of the risk of harm to groundwater, and landfill gas risk assessments at numerous landfills in Victoria, Australia. Direction of laboratory audits and quality assurance systems for soil and water analysis and assessment.
